The Tree
When Selima was first formed as a business in 1983, it traded under the name of Oasys Systems.
Having chosen this name the next step was to distinguish the brand by developing logo to accompany it. Based on the image that most people associate with an oasis, the 'tree' was borne. A copy of the original logo from the mid 1980's is shown below.
However, a short time later the Oasys brand name had to be changed due to the large number of similarly named companies in existance.
Given the task of looking for a new, much more unique name, they performed some research into the word oasis, an eventually established that one of the largest oasis in the world is called the Selima Oasis. This green spot near the northern border with Egypt was a station on the Darb el Arbain, the “Forty Days’ Route” from North Sudan to Aswan, which caravans and camel traders still take.

When Selima was 'reborn' in April 2009 under new management, we again undertook the task of trying to establish a brand and design that would given the business some individuality. Having searched a range of different options, we decided to return to the company's roots and reworked the tree for the 21st century.
