Modern Marketing: Social Media
I joined Selima in October 2010 as a Marketing Management Graduate straight out of university. Since then, I have been involved in a number of different marketing activities and events and am continuously learning from my experiences with the company. Having recently been rebranded, Selima is focused on adopting modern marketing techniques so that it is identified as a 21st Century business that follows the technological trends of the future. Working alongside a small team, my role as Sales and Marketing Assistant is far-reaching and my contribution to Selima is varied because I am not confined to the role of an individual working within a large marketing department.
Throughout March I have attended a series of marketing seminars held by a number of marketing professionals from organisations based in Manchester. A key theme that ran throughout the presentations was the growing use of social media in business. This links closely to a corporate goal of improving customer communication.
Our communication with both existing and potential customers is making clear steps of improvement; the introduction of a monthly customer newsletter and regular Tweets are definitely a start, but what I'm really keen to learn is how people want to be communicated with, and what we can do to achieve that. I have created a (very) short survey on the topic of social media's use in business and would appreciate it if you could spare 5 minutes to complete it.
